2019 Summer Children’s Museum June 19-22

2019 Summer Children’s Museum, June 19-22

Week 3 at the Summer Children’s Museum has begun. Visit us Wednesday-Saturday 10:30am-5:00pm at the Yuma Art Center 254 S. Main St. in downtown Yuma. Admission is $2/person and children must be accompanied by an adult/adults must be accompanied by a child. You don’t want to miss the fun!

Thank you to Hannah Zigo and Dominick Ryan for visiting us from Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff last Saturday. Dom manned the solar telescope outside all day, and Hannah led our hands-on activities in the gallery. In the evening, they set up their telescopes at the Foothills Library alongside the telescopes from the Astronomy Club that meets biweekly at the library. We had a total of 8 telescopes, and more than 70 people visited during the evening. The event was so successful that we hope to have Lowell Observatory return in the future.

This week:

Our Restaurant of the Week sponsor is El Charro Café. Thanks for adding such a festive mood to our restaurant this week.

In our Mission: Space Connections exhibit, all exhibits are operational again. Thank you for bearing with us on Saturday as we had to remove most of the activities due to the noise interfering with our guest teacher from Lowell Observatory.

Our special activities in our Engaging Experts Corner in the We Built This City exhibit include Meteorite Madness with Camille and Germs-Be-Gone with volunteer Judy. Judy is a retired teacher and retired nurse who is all about good hand-washing and keeping the germs away. Our germ activity is sponsored by Yuma Regional Medical Center.

On Thursday, Pamela Reyes from Ballet Yuma and Yuma Ballet Academy will be teaching ballet classes at 11 am and noon. These classes are included with your admission, but space is extremely limited. Please ask for your pass at the front desk when you purchase your wristband. Passes will be given to Miss Pamela and then you’ll be led to the classroom for the class. Thank you to our friends from Ballet Yuma for partnering with us for this unique outreach opportunity. These classes are made possible by a grant from Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma.

Special Event on Saturday

Saturday night marks the return of Night at the Museum starting at 7 pm. Tickets for this overnight event are $30/person. Children must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Bring your sleeping bags, air mattresses, and jammies for this unique event. We’ll start the evening by playing in the Children’s Museum and then move over to the Historic Yuma Theater for a nacho bar, movie theater food, and a late night showing of Night at the Museum. Finish off the evening by spending the night sleeping in the museum. A light continental breakfast will be served Sunday morning before you leave. If you miss this month’s event, there will be one more on July 13.
